Craft Addict Necklace

Craft Addict Necklace

Introducing "The Craft Addict Necklace", inspired by all the fun I had at Quilt Market- perfect for you sewers, fabric lovers, and crafty D.I.Y. gals.  The name is inspired by my new friend (and fellow Georgia girl) Mary's blog Confessions of a Craft Addict (isn't that a great blog name?!), so she gets first pick and then I will post the other two in my etsy shop.  Oh, and Mary is having an awesome giveaway on her blog right now of a cute little plush fish signed by a ton of fabric designers so enter to win by Monday!  Speaking of craftiness I'm hoping to have some new "Get Your Craft On" tutorials for you guys soon so stay tuned...

Thanks Boho Mag for featuring my Treasure Bird Earrings in the Summer 2009 issue!  I absolutely LOVE this magazine- there's really nothing like it out there on the market right now.  It's very artsy and colorful with a laid back earth-friendly vibe.  Want your own pair of Treasure Bird Earrings?  You can find them in my etsy shop...

Love is in the Air...

LOVE

Just finished up the necklace I'm going to wear in my friend's wedding this weekend.  We got to choose the colors of our bridesmaid's dresses from the warm side of the spectrum- yellows, oranges, pinks, reds, and we will all be wearing a different color.  I made this necklace by taking a vintage earring from my Flea Market finds and attaching it to a copper filigree piece.  I then made a tiny charm out of wood and gold leaf and attached to the bottom.  The look is completed with a pretty copper chain...

Speaking of weddings, my brother got engaged while I was away at Quilt Market!  Yay!  So excited and looking forward to next summer already...

Quilt Market Spring 2009 Part 4

I knew I was going to see some fantastic quilts in Pittsburgh, but WOW, some of them really blew my mind!  The colors were phenomenal and the quilts were truly works of art.  Pictures do not do these justice, but here are my top 3...

Quilt Market Spring 2009 Part 3

So for part 3 here's a mini recap of 3 great designers I met while at Quilt Market.  If you are familiar at all with fabric then this is no "new" news, but if you visit my blog and are not acquainted with the fabric world then let me introduce ya!

First up, Miss Bari J!  She and I were the "newbies" debuting our first collections at the Windham booth.  Her new line "Full Bloom" is so pretty and  girlie- love it!  Her fabric yardage came in the first day at Market and it is beautiful- can't wait to see what she sews up with it soon...

Next up we have the wonderful Miss Paula Prass.  I have admired her work for a while now and remember seeing her Home Dec goods at the Atlanta Gift show for the past few years.  She definitely has a great "eye" for design and her latest fabric collection "Summer Soiree" is no exception...

And last but not least there is Miss Patty Young.  Her new fabric line Mezzanine is beautiful and her sewing patterns are super cute!  She is a very creative gal and can't wait to see what she comes up with next...

So there you have it- short and sweet!  Stay tuned for some incredible Quilts I saw at the show...

P.S.- Special thanks to WhatMegMakes who featured my etsy shop on her blog this week!

April Cornell and I

Behold, the power of Twitter!  The lovely April Cornell arranged "tweet up" at the Market on Saturday (that's us in the second picture- she is so inspiring, such a smart lady!)  Designers and shop owners got together to meet and share a few laughs.  It was awesome to be in the midst of so many talented and successful business women!  Tweeps Representin' Above: PaulaPrass, PattyYoung, BariJ, TrueUp, April Cornell, FatQuarter Shop, FabricHound, Flourishes, FigTreeandCo, SandiHendersonJeneanMorrison, Jona, GocksFrocks

Pokey Bolton and I
Another highlight from my trip was meeting Pokey Bolton, Editor-In-Chief and founder of Cloth Paper Scissors and Quilting Arts Magazines! How cool is that?! They are incredible magazines for all types of artists, packed with creativity and great ideas so definitely check them out if you haven't already!

Coming up later this week, features on Fabric Designers and their new collections...

Whew!!!  Spring 2009 Quilt Market in Pittsburgh was such a whirlwind!  I will be doing a few recap posts this week about all of the awesome people I met and the great things I saw while I was there.  Above are pictures from my section in the Windham Fabrics booth featuring my first collection, "Flower Bucket."  The Windham peeps are such a great group and I couldn't be happier about designing for them!  Special thanks to everyone that stopped by the booth to say hello and to those who ordered my fabrics!!!  Please send me an email if you will be carrying the line and I will compile a list this Fall for the retail shoppers out there.  More to come soon...

Off to Market...

Packing for Quilt Market

Headed out to Pittsburgh tomorrow for Quilt Market.  Be sure to stop by the Windham booth if you are going to be at the show!  I'll be sure to take lots of pics (good thing I found my camera tonight-ahh!).  Alright, getting off the computer so I can hopefully complete my "to do" list by morning: finish packing, charge my ipod for the plane ride, print project ideas to pitch to mags, oh yeah and print and cut my own business cards since they didn't arrive in the mail today...Sleep is for Sissies...Talk to ya in a couple days... :)

Tying One On...

Apron Using Flower Bucket Fabrics

Apron Using Flower Bucket Fabrics

Just shipped out my samples today for Quilt Market! What a relief to have (most) everything taken care of for next week. Granted I didn't have months to plan or yards of fabric to work with, but I am really happy with the way things turned out and super grateful to be debuting my first collection! It still seems like a dream and I don't think it will fully hit me until next week...I still have a few loose ends to tie up (printing business cards, figuring out what to wear, etc.) but overall I'm feeling really good about things...

Purchased this dress in NYC a few years back.  I don't wear it enough, and today seems like the perfect day to take it out of the closet...  I see Margaritas in my future...

Getting Ready for Market

Making Samples for Quilt Market

Hey Guys! This week blog posts might be a little sparse so please forgive me. As you can see I have been working on samples for Quilt Market which is next week... It has been a fun challenge to figure out cool things to make using strike offs (teeny tiny squares of the first printing of my fabrics).  Had to bust out my old school embroidery skills too so that has been fun!  Luckily a local seamstress Traci has offered to help me get things finished up so that has taken some of the pressure off- thanks Traci!

Oh, and special thanks to Kim of True Up that featured my "Flower Bucket" sneak peek today! True Up is a great blog so if you haven't checked it out yet you definitely should...  Thanks again Kim!

Ok, well back to my Starbucks and my studio...

Genevieve :)

Weekend Wrap Up and a Winner!

The Craftstravaganzaa was a lot of fun.  Saw some old friends, made some new ones, and almost took another dog home with me (just kidding- that's "Beast" up there- he decided to hang out in my booth for a while).  Wish I would have taken more pictures, but between the multiple thunderstorms and tornado like winds blowing through town things got a little crazy...

Now time for the giveaway winner...  The Random Brian Generator (that's him below helping me at the sale today), was asked to pick a number between 1 and 12 and he picked #8.  Tabatha you win! Email me your addy and I will get the earrings out to you this week...

Thanks so much to everyone who entered the giveaway, I really appreciate the feedback!  Hope y'all have a great week ahead...

Don't forget if you live in the Athens, Ga area the Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa is this weekend!  I will be there selling jewelry and prints, and other 75 other local vendors will be there selling an array of different handmade goods.  It should be a lot of fun so come on out!

Also, I'm extending the giveaway on my blog until Sunday.  If you haven't posted your favorite fabric swatch yet then you can post here to win a free pair of earrings!
