Travel Journal

One of my BFF's 30th is next week.  She LOVES to travel and is headed to Paris for her birthday (SO wishing I could take her up on the invitation to go with her but it just didn't work out this time around).  I wanted to get her a nice journal to record all of her excursions and found this nice leather bound one at Barnes and Noble.  Decided to bust out some Martha Stewart stamps and Tim Holtz Distress Ink to give it a little personalization.  I'm really happy with how it turned out and thinking I might make one for myself later too...

Hope y'all are enjoying the weekend and talk to you next week!

Before & After Art Studio Desk

Before & After Art Studio Desk

Desk Area in my Art Studio
Decided to spruce up the 'ole desk when I was redoing my studio.  I got it at Walmart when I was in college, and it has actually held up pretty well it just wasn't very cute.  The biggest problem was that my computer, scanner, and printer could barely fit on top without something hanging off the edge.  So I put the Hubs to work removing the top and cutting a large piece of thick plywood about a foot longer to replace it with.  I filled in the edges of the plywood with wood putty and gave the whole thing a few coats of green paint.  Then I distressed the edges and sealed it with polyurethane.  Finished everything off with some pretty glass drawer pulls I found at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off!  They were a great find and I say the total for everything to do this project was less than $40- a whole heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new desk!

P.S.- Notice my Etsy Art Wall is now Turquoise?!  Wish the lighting was a little better, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like...

Happy Weekend!

Farmer's Market Bouquet 8/22/09

Happy weekend everybody- man, I love Saturdays!  Brian and I have gotten in a routine of going to the local Athens Farmer's Market every Saturday morning and picking up a few things.  I always purchase a little bouquet of wildflowers when I'm there- it just makes my whole week a little brighter.  I also found this cute silver vase at the Thrift store on our way home for only $1.50!  Always on the lookout for a good find...

Now it's time to buckle down and get some work done before Monday.  On the "to do" list: finish putting my studio back together, finish quilt ideas for my new fabric collection (yay!), figure out how much fabric I need to make the quilt/samples for the Quilt Market in October (why is it almost September already?!), go to a wedding shower for a friend of ours, pack/ship Etsy orders, and work on a proposal revision for an upcoming (fingers crossed) project...  Hope y'all have a good one and talk to you next week!

Penny Rounds

Thinking about tiling my bathroom floor in these blue penny rounds (about .75" in diameter).  Then maybe going with white distressed beadboard wainscot around the room, with light blue wall color above that...  Whatcha think?  Very cool/fun/retro/colorful tile but will I get sick of it in a few months?  Hmmm....

Painted Wood Art Studio Floor

So I decided my studio needed a little facelift- needed to get a new outlook on things so what better way then an instant paint makeover!  Well, I shouldn't say "instant" because this project took FOREVER!  Next time I'm using a stencil...  For some reason my non-logical artsy side of my brain thought it would be faster to free hand a pattern so I wouldn't have to measure and line everything up perfectly.  Can't complain though, I'm really happy with how it turned out!  It all started with a little inspiration: this beautiful necklace from Anthropologie, the prettiest floor I've ever seen by marzipan inc ("how to" instructions by Marzi here), and my all-time favorite Target shoes...

I started with the wall paint.  I chose Martha Stewart's "Diploma" white for the majority of the space and added the Lowe's Valspar brand "Gentle Wave" for the accent walls.  Next came the floor.  I went with a couple coats of porch paint in Martha Stewart's "Coriander," then I painted the flowers in the "Diploma."  Topped it off with a dry brush of "Coriander" to give it that pretty distressed finish that I love.  I figured this would also help hide scuff marks or imperfections as things get moved across the floor or for when it starts to get dingy.  Pretty and practical!

So there you have it- a little "sneak peek" into my Art Studio.  I'm still working on a few things so hopefully I will have more pictures to show of the rest of the room soon...

Before & After

Lil' Buckaroo Toy Box

Maddie

Maddie
Wanted to share this little pony toy box I made last year. I designed the original boy version while working for a gift company as part of my "Little Buckaroo" collection. I got a few samples to keep for baby gifts since I'm at that age where everyone I know is starting to have kids! One of my friends told me she was expecting a little girl and I was so excited! Had to come up with the perfect gift, so I "girl-ified" the box with pink and brown accents to coordinate with her nursery colors. I really like the way it turned out and looks like Miss Maddie does too! Isn't she the cutest? The wonderful photographs were taken by Sue Ann Holland, so if you are in the Athens, Ga area and are ever in need of a photographer check her out! Quite a few of my friends have had their children photographed by Sue Ann and their pictures always turn out super cute!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm off to tackle painting the studio, so hopefully I will have pictures to share next week...

OOAK Vintage Brooch Necklace

Yay!!!  I've been wanting this dress form from Pottery Barn for what seems like FOREVER now- finally bit the bullet and used up a couple of gift cards that I had been hoarding since my wedding 3 years ago!  Who needs dinnerware and linens when you can have this awesome piece to display jewelry?!  I'm so excited and already putting it to good use.  Remember this post about my Thrift store finds?  Well the brooches are now necklaces and available in my Etsy shop (except the blue one that is- still debating on whether to sell it or keep it for myself!).  These are totally one-of-a-kind pieces, so once they are gone they are gone...

Treasure Hunting

Thrift Store Finds Aug. 09

Thrift Store Finds Aug. 09
Today the Hubs and I had the best time around town!  Started the morning off at the local Farmer's Market, then went treasure hunting at a couple different Thrift Stores.  Scored 4 brooches and a coffee table for $20!  I have some big ideas for these guys so stay tuned...  The only bad part of the day was when this apothecary cabinet that we spotted got snatched up before we had a chance to make a final decision on whether we wanted to buy it or not.  It was so cool- multiple drawers with glass front panels so you could see what was inside- would have been perfect for my art supplies.  Can't believe someone bought it when I wasn't looking- I'm going to be thinking about that stupid cabinet all day!  Oh well, wasn't meant to be I guess...  Now time to buckle down and finish up a few design projects before the weekend is over...  Hope y'all are having a good one!
