I didn't quite finish the living room mini-makeover yet, so I thought I would share some chairs I've been swooning over in the meantime. I just love mixing and matching patterns on furniture and these funky chairs are just plain awesome...
1. ABC Carpet and Home (My favorite home store of all time! Website doesn't do the place justice though- if you are ever in NYC and haven't been before you must visit that store- it's incredible...)
2. Henry Road (New company I just found via designsponge and instantly fell in love with!)
3. Anthropologie (XOXO)

I received a blog comment last night asking how to make the flowers seen here and here. Unfortunately I only made the quilt, and I purchased those shoes in NYC a few years back with the flowers already attached. I do want to learn how to crochet though, so if I end up learning how to make pretty flowers I will definitely let you know!
In the meantime I found "100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet" on Amazon that looks like a great reference...
The paper roses were made for me by a friend as a wedding present. She made them from my extra wedding invitation envelopes (cute!) but I'm not sure how she pieced them together...
But I did find a youtube video last night that I thought looked like a simple and pretty way to make paper roses...

It's been a while since I've done one of these Mood Boards, so I wanted to share my favorite Etsy finds for January. I know it's a little "Spring-y" but I have been slightly obsessed with anything crochet and flower themed lately. Shown above:
Crochet Flowers from OneLifeRosen
Berry Cowl by Softspoken
Pet Neckwarmer by BeanTownHandmade
Rose Lariat by gsakowskidesigns
Colorful Afghan by AtelierAfra
Baby Booties by CATH94170
Speaking of favorites, I just downloaded July Flame by Laura Veirs this weekend. It is wonderful. If you are looking for some relaxing music to draw, paint, sew, or craft to then I would add this one to your playlist!
Coming later this week *hopefully* will be pics of my living room mini-makeover...

Just finished up this postcard that will be going out to promote our annual "Home Is Where The Heart Is"- feel free to spread the word or post the image on your blog! I have also set up a "donate" button in my sidebar if you would like to contribute to this wonderful cause- no amount is too small and every penny will go to building a house by the Women Build project. We are still accepting art donations until Feb. 8th, so if you have anything you would like to contribute feel free to shoot me an email. Also, to clarify "art" doesn't have to be a piece you can hang on your wall- I've gotten a couple emails from people who sew or make jewelry and am so excited to include those in the auction as well. Thanks so much!

I love to see the way people put things together and was in fabric heaven when I visited the fabriccloset last night! It amazes me the different looks that can be created with my fabrics when combined with other collections and different colorways. The top group seems sophisticated and I can envision it for a quilt or pillows for a living room or master bedroom, while the bottom combinations seem whimsical and would be so cute in a nursery or used for kids clothes. This makes me want to crank up my sewing machine this afternoon...
P.S.- Totally random, but I came across one of my old Aretha cds the other day and have fallen in love all over again. She is the coolest. There is nobody else that can sing like that lady, nobody... Here's some 1970's "Spirit in the Dark" for you...

Check out this adorable "Busy Tot" crayon and doodle pad case by Wendi of MadeForYouGifts! I love the combination of Flower Bucket fabrics she used- great job Wendi! Don't forget to add your own Flower Bucket projects to my new flickr group!

First things first...#5 (aka Kaye Prince), Congrats you are the winner! Email me your addy and I will ship you out some surprise goodies this weekend!
Thanks to all who commented and let me know what you would like to see more of on my blog. Sounds like you guys enjoy the behind the scenes and tutorial stuff so I will try to focus more on that this year. So let's start today! I decided to kill two birds with one stone by showing you some "behind the scenes" studio sprucing up I've been doing and a "tutorial" on how I did it...
The cabinet in my studio was actually a kitchen cabinet that I salvaged from my Grandfather's house a few years back. It's really sturdy and can hold a lot of supplies as you can see in the before picture. Things tend to get junky looking in there so I wanted to hide the mess and add a little color to that wall as well. Here is what I did:
Step 1: Went to my local Lowe's store and bought a roll of ceiling-tin-textured wallpaper. I've had my eye on it for a while and it just so happened to be on sale for $3 that day!
Step 2: Used some leftover "Gentle Wave" and painted the wallpaper with a medium size brush.
Step 3: Measured the glass panels on the cabinet doors and cut the wallpaper into the same size squares.
Step 4: Dry brushed brown acrylic paint onto the squares to give it an aged look and appear more like old ceiling tin.
Step 5: Lined edges of squares with double sided tape and attached to the inside of the glass panels.
Step 6: Switched out the plain white knobs on the cabinet with pretty glass ones from Hobby Lobby (1/2 off!)
There you have it, easy peezy... Oh, and the yellow door in my studio was done in a similar way... I took the leftover yellow floor paint and used it on the door as well as 3 metal ceiling tins (also found at Hobby Lobby), distressed them with brown paint, and attached the tins with heavy duty double sided foam tape to the door...

(Photos by Bakerella. Check out her site, it's fantastic!)
Wow- a year of blogging came and went so fast! My first post was actually right before Thanksgiving of 2008 and with the Holidays I totally forgot to post when the 1 year anniversary was here in November! So, we'll just pretend the anniversary is today, k?! That way I can host a giveaway too ;)
I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this whole blog thing but I've really enjoyed it. It's fun to have a little place to post pictures and thoughts about what's going on around here and get to communicate with all of you out in blog land too. Thank you to all of my readers and for all of your nice comments along the way!
So, now for the giveaway... I'm going to put together a little "surprise" grab bag full of goodies- some fabric, jewelry, etc. All you have to do to enter to win is submit a comment by Monday, Jan. 11th at 8pm EST telling me what you would like to see more of on this blog so I can make it even better for 2010! Do you want to see more behind the scenes? More "Get Your Craft On" tutorials? A "Frequently Asked Questions" Post? Features on other artists? Should I bring back the Etsy Mood Boards? More Buster (ha!)? Anything other suggestions? Thanks so much and good luck! A winner will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 12th. (and please make sure if your comment doesn't link to your profile I have an email addy to contact you if you win!)

A couple years ago my friend Heather and I decided to get a little art auction together to benefit the Athens Area Habitat for Humanity Women Build. We are now on year 3 of the "Home Is Where the Heart Is" event and once again looking for artists to participate. If you or anyone you know would like to create a piece of artwork for the silent auction by February 8th please send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or contact Habitat's Public Outreach Director (email@example.com) for more details. In previous years the artists decorated small wooden houses, but this year we are opening it up to any medium/style/shape/size as long as it fits the theme "Home Is Where the Heart Is" in some way. The event will be held at Hotel Indigo on February 18th from 5:30-7:30pm. Please help spread the world for this wonderful cause! Thanks so much...
